it's OK but it's not...

not to perpetuate the stupidity, but flip-flops were in the news. why? who cares. They're sandles, women wear high-heeled sandles all the time. "Inappropriate" was the common word used by the critics. "Who cares!" was the arguement used by defenders. I'm sorry, a zillion people are dying & starving. Scotty DIED!!! Facists are committing attrocities all over the world while their citizens argue over shoes. There are SO many more important things to discuss than the appropriateness of foot attire at the White House. Such as video games.

I never cared much for Grand Theft Auto. But it's raised a serious stink because of a [modification] of the game. The Mod allows the player to have simulated sex with his girlfriends, In Game. Politicians like Senator Hilary Clinton have gotten involved. The Video Game rating board, the ESRB, has taken away it's MATURE rating (17+) and gave it an Adults Only (18+) rating. Which will force it off the shelves of many of your corporate conglomerates. Therefore not allowing the game to be easily available thus less of an impulse buy. Why is this a big deal. Well (1) the age difference is 1 year. Can a 17 year old really be that less mature than an 18 year old? (2) The moral-mongers are once again telling people what is OK and what isn't OK by forcing Rockstar Games off the main highway. Punishing the company financially because of their own moral beliefs. (3) It's OK to Car-jack & Murder but it's NOT OK to have consensual sex with your girlfriend.

So, explain this again to me? Violence is OK but Sex is NOT? I wish you fucking conservatives & x'tians would follow your own "wisdom", and stop pro-creating. Oh, by me saying this I bet you want to hit me over the head until I was dead, right. That's right.

Thanks. This is an old picture from Halloween of '98.

Unfortunately, the costume was a rental. I own no outfits of my own.

Every girlfriend I've had since then has accused me of being a furry. Partly, well mainly because of this picture. I love it and think it is hilarious. Especially blown up a bit. I think you can see me smoking in the icon, but the look of disgust or boredom is pretty funny as well.

It's funny...I was supposed to be the white rabbit. My girlfriend at the time was Alice. We went to WeHo on the Santa Monica Blvd Halloween jaunt and these guys kept calling me such a cute lamb. I guess the ears needed to be perkier.

Tipper Gore was one of the few who spearheaded these ESRB ratings in the first place. Or, actually, she promoted the most ridiculous rating system. The EXPLICIT LYRICS warning on a cd label.

That is the absolute worst rating/warning system. When a Too Short cd and a Pulp cd receive the same Explicit warning system there's something wrong. One motherfucking "f" word gets you that label.

There are many social conservatives in both of the major political parties and in the "Red" or "Blue" states. There are also many politicians who will act like a social conservative in order to create a political platform for their own gain or for free advertising of their political prowess.

yeah, i said Conservatives not Republicans. Conservatives are found in both political parties. The GOPs are just further "right". The line has skewed a bit over the last few decades. I'd say since Kennedy. Both parties are really just the same thing. Hell, they all wear suits and have short hair. True liberals are too busy hugging trees and fighting whalers to even know what is going on in our country.

Also Tipper Gore is just as conservative as any other christian bible thumper. She just doesn't say God every ten seconds like W.

I agree with you completely. The social weapon of choice may be different, but they all end up killing or destroying the same thing. You grab your holy axe and I'll bring my helpless child and we'll make efficient destruction of civil liberties and consumer rights.

i don't disagree with you at all on the part of conservatives standing on both sides of a division that in truth is meaningless (the dems rallied around joe lieberman... enough said).

if anything, i was agreeing with you on your point that there's more that's going on in our nation (not to mention in the rest of the world) that's more worthy of our attention (perhaps even our ire) than the non-issues (i.e. flip flops in the white house, GTA's 'hot coffee' mod) that are being scandalized in the media and subsequently being eaten up by the public.

(although, you were more spot-on using "fascist" to describe those committing (and getting away with) atrocities.)

nope! heck, you can't get it anywhere except for those indie game shops like CD Interact in Pasadena... they sell used porn too.

heh... I love Interact!

They sell porn video games, as well. There is a section between RTS and turn based strategy games that looks like anime films, but the pictures are all censored.

Also, that's the place where I saw the interactive porn video case sitting on the counter that I wrote about in my Art final paper.

When you go, tell Dave "Ian sez Hi". He won't give you any discount, but yeah.

Of course, my reaction to this was, "Oh I should go out and buy an un-altered version of the game before it's gone and replaced with a -safe- version". Honestly, I don't understand why they're giving the adult rating to the PS2 and Xbox versions. You can't mod a console version of a game without modding the console itself... which is illegal if I'm not mistaken. They shoulda only recalled the PC versions of the game... or maybe PATCHED it. And yeah, I don't see the big stink in the first place. I mean, in Vice City you can still go around with a baseball bat and beat people to death. That must be the 'mature' thing to do. Sex is the 'adult' thing to do.

Sandals are mature too.

Well, it was actually about time. The Adult Only game market has been officially mainstreamed! It's like the X rating. It's no longer gonna be a sign of Taboo, but a sign of Content. ...

"this game MUST be good, it has an AO rating".

It's like how the Movie ratings now TELL US what good stuff is in it.

Lets say two Cheerleader movies come out, straight to video. And one of your dearest friends wants to rent one of them. Which one would YOU choose. Assuming they are both rated R. The one that reads "Rated R for Comic Violence & Drug Use" or "Rated R for Nudity & Sexual Situations" Exactly.

EVERYBODY likes to see boobies.

Oh yeah. I actually LOVE rating systems. Like I posted above. It gives you a heads up on the content. I don't know why broadcast TV hasn't used it to their advantage. There is a V-Chip in all new TVs now. So consumers can BLOCK shows at their own discretion. So broadcast TV stations should start showing more violent & sexual shows. They should. And NO ONE should say a damned thing about it. Because THEY have the ability to block it at their whim. Right? Right? Isn't that why we all pay an extra $10 or so bucks for our TVs? To pay for that mandatory V-Chip in our sets? So WE can have more control over our viewing? Right? Can you imagine it? Porn over broadcast TV? Can you imagine the commercials? Considering Porn is one of the biggest money drawing industries in the world, you'd think these corporate sponsored politicians would be more into it. You would think.
